Esistono due tipologie di buchi neri: quelli stellari e quelli supermassicci (che si trovano al centro di ogni galassia). Grazie a strumenti sempre migliori siamo riusciti ad osservare i buchi neri all’alba dell’Universo. Il fatto che questi oggetti siano già completamente formati in meno di un miliardo di anni dopo il Big Bang mette a dura prova le nostre conoscenze e costituisce uno dei più grandi misteri dell’universo.
